Where the money goes
Honestly: a server on AWS, the AI calls behind identify / grade / research, PriceCharting data, PSA lookups, and the giveaway cards themselves. Nobody here is getting rich β the goal is for the site to pay for itself so it can stay open and keep growing.
Is a Supporter purchase a donation?
No β it's a purchase. You get AI credits with real value in the app plus a badge, and bonus giveaway entries come along with it. It's not tax-deductible and we don't call it a donation, because it isn't one.
What's an "AI credit"?
One identify, one grade, or one research call made with the shared AI key. Everyone gets a free monthly allowance first; credits are only spent once that's used up, so they last. If you add your own AI key in Settings, you never touch the shared key at all and your credits sit untouched.
Is Pro a subscription?
Not yet β it's a pass. $7 buys 30 days, $60 buys a year, and buying again stacks onto the end of what you have. Nothing renews on its own, so you'll never get a surprise charge.
How do I pay?
Through Square's hosted checkout β card or Apple/Google Pay. Card Vault never sees your card number. Open β¦ Support inside your vault, pick a tier, and you're back in the app with it applied within a few seconds of paying.
The Spotlight Giveaway
One card goes in the spotlight at a time. Enter free, and if your ticket's drawn, it ships to you.
Is it really free?
Yes. No purchase necessary. Everyone gets a free entry per giveaway on the giveaway page that counts five times, and every entry β free or bonus β has exactly the same odds. Supporter and Pro purchases include bonus entries, but you're buying AI credits and features; the entries are a thank-you, and the free route is always open.
How is the winner picked?
After entries close, the owner taps Draw. Every entry is one slot in a list and a cryptographically random number picks the slot β no favourites, no re-rolls. The winner's first name and last initial go on the giveaway page, and the winner gets an email asking for a shipping address.
How many entries does the free entry give me?
Five β the same as the smallest Supporter purchase, so the free route is never worse than the cheapest paid one. One free entry per person per giveaway; duplicates and bots get removed. Supporter and Pro purchases add more entries as a thank-you for keeping the site running, but every single entry β free or bonus β has identical odds.
Who can enter?
Anyone 18+ in the US where this kind of sweepstakes is allowed. Depending on the prize's value some states (Florida, New York, Rhode Island) may be excluded β the Official Rules for each giveaway say so. Void where prohibited. Prizes worth $600 or more need a W-9 from the winner for tax reporting.
What happens with my info?
Name and email are used to run the giveaway and contact the winner; a shipping address is only needed if you win. Entries aren't sold or shared, and the list is deleted after the prize ships.
Packs
Real cards from the owner's extra inventory, sold as packs. You rip it in the app, the cards land in your vault, and you ship them whenever you like.
Is a pack a gamble?
No. Every pack is guaranteed to contain cards whose book value is at least what you paid β the system only builds a pack from cards that clear that floor, and shows you the book value of every card after the rip. Chance decides which cards you get, never whether you got your money's worth. Prices come from the same market data the vault uses everywhere else.
What can I spend vault credits on?
Packs, shipping, and any Supporter or Pro tier β a leftover balance can buy a year of Pro outright. They never expire. The one thing credits can't buy is giveaway entries: those only ever come free or as a bonus with a Supporter/Pro purchase.
How do I pay for packs?
With vault credits, bought in bundles under β¦ Support (bundles can include a small bonus). Rips are instant β no checkout page every time. If a pack sells out between your tap and the rip, nothing is charged.
Where do my cards go?
Straight into your vault, flagged "held" β the owner keeps them safe for you. Ship any time from My account: $3 for the first card and 25Β’ for each extra, capped at $10 no matter how many β so it pays to let them build up. You'll see tracking there when it goes out.
Can I sell cards back?
Yes β any pulled card you haven't shipped can go back into the pool for 80% of its book value, credited instantly as vault credits (store credit, never cash) β right from the rip screen, the Cards page, or My account. The only limit: a card never sells back for more than 90% of what you paid for it, so a lucky pack is yours to keep or ship, not to cash out.
Can I just pick a card instead of ripping?
Browse the pool and buy a specific card for its book value β coming soon. Until then, packs are the way in.
The eBay side
What does the eBay connection do?
- Export β a card becomes a ready-to-post eBay listing: title, photos, condition, item specifics, price from the live market.
- Live listings on checklists β every card you're hunting shows current auctions, Buy It Nows and Best Offers, filtered by raw / graded / grade.
- Deal lights β green for Buy It Now at or under market, yellow for a fair price, red for a PSA 6+ auction ending within 24 hours. The scanner runs in the background every 15 minutes.
- Bid tracking β items you're bidding on get a π¨ and "currently bidding" so you don't flag your own auction.
Do you take a cut when I sell?
No. Your listings are yours, on your eBay account, with eBay's normal fees only.
AI, prices and PSA
How does identify work?
Snap the front (and back) on your phone. The AI reads the card β name, set, number, language, slab label if it's graded β and matches it to a known set. If it's unsure it says so, and you can fix it in one tap. Non-English cards get their English name so prices match.
Where do prices come from?
PriceCharting for raw and graded sales history, PSA's price guide for slabs, your own CSV of market values if you keep one, and optional AI research that reads recent comps. The vault shows a sanity flag when the match looks wrong (a $2,000 price on a $100 card, say).
What's a PSA photo pull?
For graded slabs with a cert number, Pro members get PSA's official front/back scans attached automatically β a uniform, letterboxed look for your whole slab collection without photographing each one. Very old certs don't have scans on PSA's side; those are marked so the vault stops trying.
Can I use my own AI key?
Yes, on any plan. Paste an Anthropic or OpenAI key in Settings and every AI feature runs on your account instead of the shared one β no allowance, no credits used.
Community & badges
What do the badges mean?
β¦ Supporter has bought AI credits at least once. β Pro has an active Pro pass. π is the site owner. They show on your profile, your community cards and in chat.
Who can see my cards?
Only what you choose: Community off, all cards, favourites only, or hand-picked. Share links show only the cards you put on that link. Messaging is per card and only between you and the person who asked.
Credits & terms (the plain-English version)
What are vault credits for?
Collecting. Credits rip packs, buy and bid on the Market, and pay for AI credits, Supporter and Pro tiers, and shipping. They never expire and they're yours to spend however you like on the site.
How does selling on the Market work?
List any card from your vault as an auction (1β10 days) or Buy It Now, with optional offers and auto-accept / auto-decline prices, and set your own shipping. When it sells you're paid in vault credits minus the market fee (5% of the sale, minimum $0.25, maximum $5 β listing is free). The buyer's credits are held until they confirm the card arrived, or for up to 14 days after you add tracking; if the seller doesn't ship within 5 days the buyer can cancel for a full refund. Cards already in the owner's custody transfer instantly. Sellers who set up payouts can also take card payments that go straight to their bank (see below).
Can I cash out my balance?
Your Vault balance can't be withdrawn. It's store credit with no cash value, and that includes credits from Market sales paid with balance. The exception: unused credits you bought with a card can be refunded to that card within 14 days. Message the owner from Community.
How do I get paid real money for my cards?
Set up payouts on My account β Get paid to your bank. It's a one-time Stripe signup with your ID and bank account, and Stripe also handles your tax forms. After that, buyers can pay for your Buy It Now listings of $5 or more by card, and the money goes to your bank weekly once they confirm the card arrived.
What a card sale costs you, all taken out of the sale:
- 5% market fee (min $0.25, max $5), the same as balance sales
- 2.9% + 30Β’ card processing: Stripe's own charge, passed through at cost
- $3 once a month, only in months you're paid by card. It covers Stripe's monthly payout-account and bank-transfer fees.
Example: a $20 card sold by card pays you about $18.12 ($20 β $1.00 market fee β $0.88 processing), less $3 if it's your first card payout that month. These fees exist so card sales cover their own costs. Card Vault keeps only the market fee.
Can I make money selling cards back?
No, and it isn't meant for that. Sell-back pays store credit at 80% of a card's book value, never more than 90% of what you paid for it. It exists to move cards you don't want back into circulation. If you buy, sell back, buy, sell backβ¦ your balance shrinks a little every round β by design. Don't expect to 10Γ anything; the way to come out ahead here is to keep the cards you love.
Where does the money go?
Hosting, the AI behind identify and grading, price data, PSA lookups, and envelopes. This is a one-collector operation built to move cards and support the love of the trade. If packs take off, the plan is community packs β members contributing cards to a shared pool β as another way to keep it all turning.
Prices and mistakes
Book values come from market data and can be wrong in both directions. If a pack's card is badly mispriced, tell the owner β it gets fixed and made right. Damaged or misdescribed shipped cards are replaced or credited.
